NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
July 19, 2022, 5:30 PM
Montezuma Town Hall, 8102 Dock Street
The Montezuma Town Board has scheduled a public hearing on a proposed local law entitled “A Local Law for the Abolition of the Elected Position of Highway Superintendent and the Creation of the Appointed Position of Highway Superintendent of the Town of Montezuma.”
At the Public Hearing, the public is invited to discuss whether they are in favor or opposed to said local and ask questions as to why the board considers this in the best interest of the Town. Copies of the proposed local law are on file at the Montezuma Clerk’s office for public inspection.
PLEASE ATTEND AND BE INFORMED AS TO WHY THE TOWN BOARD PROPOSES THIS NEW LAW.
It’s important for the public to be informed before putting this law to vote in November. The Town Board is proposing this change in order to provide the best possible highway service and town property maintenance
for town residents.
As an elected position this limits the direction the town board can provide and has created unnecessary and unresolvable issues in the past several years. Due to difficulties in filling this position with a qualified, experienced professional it requires, it is becoming increasingly important to open the position to non-resident persons from outside the town limits. This will enable the Town Board members to search for someone qualified and give important direction on behalf of the Town’s best interest.
