The Enlarged Erie Canal (1849-1917) Boat Basin, 600′ x 600′, a hub of activity where boats could pull out of the line of the traffic as the crews rested or waited to meet other boaters. Fish taken from the basin were transported to NYC markets. Icehouses lined the banks to store ice cut from the basin, and had to be labeled “canal ice.” A jail was located along the west bank, too.
