The Montezuma Historical Society is sponsoring an epic outdoor theater drama to celebrate the beginning of the centennial celebration of America’s most grand and influential man-made waterway, the Erie Canal, known as Clinton’s Ditch. The play will be performed in two locations at Giardina Park in Montezuma on Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30th. The VFW will have a Chicken BBQ. Eat in or take over to the Giardina Park before the play begins at 7:30 PM. It will also be performed at Devaney’s Canalside Grill Restaurant in Weedsport Monday, June 26 and Tuesday 30, 2017 at 7:30 both nights. A special theater menu is available from the restaurant.

This production is being brought to Central New York just prior to the 200th anniversary of the first shovel of dirt dug in Rome, NY, on July 4, 1817. The play chronicles the creation of the canal from the moment it was conceived to being championed to its completion by DeWitt Clinton in 1825.
